Namaste!
The thought uppermost in my mind as I reflect on the past year is that we at TSMS are truly blessed. You children who are the soul of the school, are so wonderful, and the beauty within each one of you shines so brightly that it illuminates the entire school.
I read a beautiful thought that describes this –“We carry within us the wonders we seek around us” You children are the true wonders who with your honesty, simplicity and innocence create this wonderful world. Remember you have this power in you and each one of you is actually a Super Hero! What you have inside you is what you create around you.
One of the most important quality you must inculcate is the quality of “kindness”. As Shakespeare said- “The quality of mercy is not strain’d/It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven /Upon the place beneath: it is twice blessed; it blesseth him that gives and him that takes…”
Kindness is such a beautiful quality and such an enriching one. You must be kind to others but don’t forget to be kind to yourself. Try and find those things that make you happy. Find time to be with yourself and enjoy these things- be it reading a book, listening to music, taking a walk, watching a sunrise or just cuddling into your blanket on a cold Sunday morning!
Learn to enjoy these little moments – believe me they add up to a lot of happiness!
When we are kind to ourselves and we realize the joy it brings we must spread this happiness around. Be kind to your friends, parents, teachers and the world around. Being kind is being nice! It’s listening to that small voice in your head which shows you the way. Anyone who thinks that making another feel small or hurting another is fine and is “cool” really needs to rethink. You don’t become big by making others feel small – your actions make you big. Everyone of you has it in them to make others feel loved and supported in your unique and lovingpresence, whether it be your parents and family, friends- younger and older, bhaiyas and didis, your teachers and everyone else. I would encourage you all to build an atmosphere of cooperation over competition. Always! Trust me it’s a lot more fun.Find the love that flows through you. It’s unique for each one of you and it’s so beautiful!Have a big heart full of love and happiness and spread it through acts of kindness. You will be surprised to see the effect. Smile often, laugh out loud, value people and you will experience the “wonder” inside you create a “wonder” around you.
Another important shift that I recommend to you children, is to think of “hard work” as “heart work”. We keep telling you to work hard and that there is no substitute for hard work. This is true but I would encourage you to find and pursue your “heart work”– things that interest you, that you have fun doing and you are naturally gifted at. When you find this, you will naturally work hard on doing something you enjoy and it won’t feel like work at all.
So children, find out what you love, are good at and create happiness for others and then find a way to make that your career choice. It will create a sense of expansive happiness around you. You won’t have to work hard because you will love doing your “heart work”.“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray – Rumi”
Live in the present but create for the future. Be generous, be kind. Ask what makes your heart sing and then sing loud and clear. This world today needs more people with hearts that sing and needs a new kind of army – the army of the Kind!
All my love and blessings,
